The “3×3 Mecca” Hongcheon’s best festival, the 3×3 Challenger, opened grandly.
On the 19th, the opening ceremony of the NH Nonghyup Bank FIBA 3×3 Hongcheon Challenger 2026 was held at a special court at the Hongcheon K Convention Center in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon State.
Starting in 2023, Hongcheon has been hosting the 3×3 Challenger for four consecutive years. In addition, Hongcheon SUPER STOP will be held on the 20th in a row.
A total of 16 teams are participating in this competition, and they are competing fiercely. On the 18th, the qualifying draw and main draw schedule were held, and the top 8 that reached the quarterfinals tournament was decided.
The Hongcheon Challenger is the only FIBA 3×3 professional circuit competition in Korea. Hongcheon has consistently hosted Korea’s best 3×3 competitions and is called the “3×3 Mecca.”
As it is a big competition that FIBA is also paying attention to, there are many at stake. The winning team of this tournament will receive a ticket to the upcoming Macau World Tour and a prize of $20,000. The runner-up team receives $15,000.
The prize money will be awarded to the final fifth place, and the total prize money will reach $60,000. The competition to win the Macau World Tour, as well as the fierce competition of world-class 3×3 teams for huge prize money, is also the main point of view of the tournament.
The world tour is considered the top stage of the FIBA 3×3 international competition. The prize money alone reaches $40,000, and the total prize money is $132,000.
The distinguished guests at the opening ceremony were also spectacular. Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Woo Sang-ho, Hongcheon-gun County Governor Shin Young-jae, Hongcheon-gun Council Chairman Jeong Kwan-kyo, Hongcheon-gun Sports Council Chairman Shin Eun-seop, and Lee Young-wook. Rep. Hong Sung-ki of Gangwon State, Chairman of KXO Park Gun-yeon, Chairman of the Hongcheon Challenger Organizing Committee Choi Hee-am, Chairman of the Gangwon-do Basketball Association Kim Cheol-hoe, Chairman of the Hongcheon-gun Basketball Association Bae Sang-mi, and President Ha Yeon-seop of Yonsei University’s Wonju Campus were also present.
Meanwhile, the Hongcheon Challenger has the last day of its fate left. Starting with world No. 1 UB, eight teams, including Utsunomiya, who made a miraculous advance to the quarterfinals as the “King of Hongcheon,” will compete fiercely for a berth in Macau’s world tour and a prize of $20,000.
