After finishing first in the three-way tie in Pool A on Day 1, France delivered when it mattered most, defeating Neftchi SOCAR (AZE) in the Semi-Finals before overcoming Rapid in the championship game to secure their first Women’s Series stop win of the season — and the biggest one at that.

The victory also marked France’s third FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series season title, following their previous triumphs in 2019 and 2024.

Finishing the job

France entered the knockout rounds as Pool A winners after going 2-1 on Day 1 and topping the three-way tie on total points.

They then faced a tough Neftchi SOCAR side in the Semi-Finals. The contest was physical and low-scoring from the outset, with the two teams tied 2-2 early. France gradually established control, moving ahead 7-3 midway through the game before Neftchi fought back.

Brianna Fraser, who had suffered an early injury, returned to the court and helped keep Neftchi within striking distance. But Laetitia Guapo continued to make an impact for France, helping her team maintain an 11-8 advantage with under two minutes remaining.

Marie Mané then delivered the decisive blow, hitting a big two-pointer to put France ahead 15-11. Fraser answered with another two-pointer, but France held on for a 15-13 victory and a place in the Final.

Awaiting them was Rapid Bucharest, who had swept Pool B before defeating Netherlands 18-14 in their Semi-Final.

The championship game began as a tight affair, with France holding a narrow 4-3 advantage early.

France then began to pull away. They extended their lead to 6-3 before taking control midway through the game at 10-5. Rapid struggled to generate consistent offense as France did an excellent job containing Marta Miščenko inside.

France continued to hold the advantage, moving ahead 13-7 with four minutes remaining and eventually building a 16-12 lead with under three minutes to play.

Rapid refused to go quietly. Hortense Limouzin missed three free throws as France maintained a 16-12 advantage, but Rapid stayed alive when they cut the deficit to 16-14 with a minute remaining.

France responded immediately. Marie-Eve Paget knocked down a crucial two-pointer to restore a four-point cushion before Guapo added a free throw to make it 19-14. France closed out the championship from there, eventually securing a 22-14 victory. Paget added a buzzer-beating two-pointer to put the finishing touches on France’s title triumph.

The victory made both Guapo and Paget three-time FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series winners, having also been part of the France teams that won in 2019 and 2024.

Guapo named MVP

Guapo was at the heart of France’s championship run and was rewarded with the MVP award. The French star finished the Project Redwings Shanghai Final ranked second in total player value with 38.2, while also grabbing 22 rebounds, third-most in the tournament, and scoring 30 points, good for fourth overall.

Her all-around contribution proved decisive as France navigated two difficult knockout games and ultimately lifted the championship trophy.

Young Talent’s Laura Award

Beijing’s (CHN) Li Ruoying was named the winner of the Young Talent’s Laura Award, recognizing the best U25 player of the Shanghai Final. Despite Beijing’s campaign, Li and her teammates fought through to the knockout stage and provided one of the home crowd’s standout stories.

Rapid swept Pool B to earn a direct place in Sunday’s Semi-Finals, while France claimed first place in Pool A on total points ahead of Netherlands and Neftchi. Ulaanbaatar Amazons (MGL) and Netherlands will face Quarter-Final tests on Sunday, with Beijing (CHN) also advancing from Pool B.

Rapid Bucharest sweep Pool B

Rapid Bucharest were the standout team in Pool B, overcoming China, Ulaanbaatar Amazons and Beijing to finish the day with a perfect 3-0 record.

Their opening game was a thriller. China appeared to have control for much of the contest, leading 15-11 with two minutes remaining. But Rapid mounted a stunning late comeback, taking a 16-15 lead inside the final minute before holding on for a 17-16 victory. Hortense Limouzin led the way with 8 points as Rapid survived the dramatic finish.

The Romanian side then turned up the pressure against Ulaanbaatar, racing into a 12-5 lead before pulling away for a commanding 21-7 win. Martyna Petrenaite led Rapid with 8 points.

Their final pool game against Beijing was another battle. Beijing were reduced to three players after Wang Xuemeng suffered an injury in their previous game, but continued to fight against the unbeaten Rapid. Beijing stayed within striking distance throughout before Rapid finally pulled away late for a 20-18 victory. Marta Miščenko led Rapid with 9 points.

The perfect record sends Rapid directly into the Semi-Finals, where they will face the winner of Netherlands-Beijing.

France arise from three-way tie in Pool A

Pool A produced one of the most dramatic storylines of the day, with France, Netherlands and Neftchi SOCAR all finishing 2-1. France ultimately emerged on top of the standings on total points, earning a direct Semi-Final berth despite opening the day with a 17-15 defeat to Neftchi.

France bounced back emphatically against Germany, building a commanding 14-8 lead before securing a 21-13 victory. Marie Milapie led the way with 8 points.

That set up a decisive clash with Netherlands. The two teams traded blows throughout a tense contest, with neither able to establish a significant advantage. Netherlands moved ahead 15-14 after an Ilse Kuijt two-pointer, but France responded when Marie Mané hit from beyond the arc to put her team ahead 19-17. Marie-Eve Paget then delivered the decisive blow, knocking down a two-pointer to complete a 21-17 victory.

The result gave France the win they needed to finish 2-1 and take first place in the three-way tie, sending them directly into the Semi-Finals. In the process, the French also ended the Dutch’s win streak at 27 games.

The FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Project Redwings Shanghai Final will take place at the West Bund Artistic Center in Xuhui District, Shanghai, China.

The event takes place in Xuhui, a district where history, culture, commerce and modern urban development intersect. The West Bund has become one of the city’s major destinations for art, entertainment, technology and major events, making it a fitting setting for the Women’s Series season finale.

When is it?

The FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Project Redwings Shanghai Final 2026 takes place on September 5-6.

The eight teams have been divided into two pools of four.

Both pools feature plenty of firepower, with Pool A bringing together the second- and third-seeded teams alongside both Chinese representatives, while Pool B pits top seed Netherlands against three top-flight European challengers.

How does the competition work?

The eight teams will first compete in pool play, with each team facing the other three teams in their pool.

The first-place team from each pool will advance straight to the Semi-Finals. The second-place and third-place teams form each pool will advance to the Quarter-Finals. From there, the competition becomes win-or-go-home.

The Quarter-Finals winners will face the teams already waiting in the Semi-Finals, with the winners advancing to the Final to battle for the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Project Redwings Shanghai Final 2026 crown.

Who won last year?

Canada (CAN) were crowned champions at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Final 2025 also in Shanghai.

Canada defeated Azerbaijan (AZE) in the Final, while Netherlands claimed third place.

Shanghai is therefore no stranger to dramatic Women’s Series action, and a new champion will be crowned in 2026.

The previous Women’s Series Finals have also produced a who’s who of 3×3 basketball champions, with Canada winning in 2025, 2023 and 2022, France triumphing in 2024 and Germany taking the title in 2021.

The Shanghai Final features some of the biggest stars of the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series 2026.

The Netherlands bring the No. 1-ranked Ilse Kuijt and No. 2-ranked Noortje Driessen, while Neftchi SOCAR’s Alexandra Mollenhauer arrives as the No. 3 player in the Women’s Series.
