MADRID (Spain) – The race for FIBA 3×3 World Tour spots continues in Spain as the first-ever FIBA 3×3 Madrid Challenger 2026 brings a loaded field to the Pabellon Amaya Valdemoro in Alcobendas, Madrid, on October 3-4, with three coveted FIBA 3×3 World Tour Manama tickets on the line. As the 26th Challenger of the season, Madrid marks another crucial opportunity for some of the Pro Circuit’s leading teams to turn Challenger success into a place on the World Tour.

Big Names Converge

The Madrid field features a collection of established 3×3 basketball powerhouses, led by top-seeded Ub (SRB) and second-ranked Liman (SRB). Liman arrive with serious momentum after claiming their third Challenger win of the season at Mataró, adding another banner to a campaign that has also already included two FIBA 3×3 World Tour victories.

Baskets Bonn (GER), currently fourth overall in the FIBA 3×3 World Tour standings, have also enjoyed a standout campaign with three FIBA 3×3 World Tour stop wins and three Challenger victories to their name. They will face strong competition from Skyliners (GER), Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy (MGL) and DeQing (CHN), all of whom have already captured Challenger banners this season.

The Spanish contingent adds another layer to the tournament, with 15th-ranked Fuengirola (ESP) and 19th-ranked Barcelona (ESP) looking to make the most of home-court conditions. Barcelona have already won a Challenger this season, while Bordeaux (FRA) complete the list of big name contenders.

Star Power Galore

Madrid will also feature a host of established 3×3 basketball stars. Ub’s Strahinja Stojacic headlines the players list, with the Serbian star set to lead one of the tournament’s most favored teams. Liman will counter with Stefan Milivojevic, while Baskets Bonn can call on the athletic Fabian Giessmann.

Stefan Kojic brings experience and perimeter scoring ability to Skyliners, while Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy will have veteran playmaker and FIBA 3×3 World Cup champion Nauris Miezis in their ranks. DeQing will look to another World Cup winner, Francis Lacis, with Fuengirola relying on Isaac Mayo and Barcelona on Jordi Juanola. Bordeaux will also have a proven performer in Alex Vialaret, giving the French side another weapon in a field where individual matchups could prove decisive.

Top global contenders converge as Bangkok hosts FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series 2026 stop | FIBA Basketball https://3x3ce.org/top-global-contenders-converge-as-bangkok-hosts-fiba-3x3-womens-series-2026-stop-fiba-basketball/ Fri, 21 Aug 2026 09:10:11 +0000 https://3x3ce.org/top-global-contenders-converge-as-bangkok-hosts-fiba-3x3-womens-series-2026-stop-fiba-basketball/

BANGKOK (Thailand) – The FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series 2026 heads to Thailand on August 22-23, with a loaded 16-team field set to battle for valuable Race to the Final points in Bangkok.

Leading the way are top seeds Ulaanbaatar Amazons (MGL), who arrive as one of the benchmark teams of the 2026 season. The Mongolian powerhouse has already captured two Women’s Series titles this year and sits atop the overall standings, with Khulan Onolbaatar once again leading the charge.

Players to Watch

Onolbaatar is coming off a third-place finish at the most recent FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series stop in Singapore and remains one of the faces of the circuit this season. She will look to guide the Amazons back to the top of the proverbial podium in Bangkok, where they open Pool A against Kenya (KEN) and Slovenia (SLO).

Canada (CAN) enter as the No. 2 seed and will be looking to rediscover their winning form. The reigning FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Final 2025 champions have shown their quality throughout the season, with Paige Crozon coming off a fifth-place finish at the WS Tokyo stop. A strong showing from Crozon and Canada could put them in position to claim their second stop title of the season.

Canada face Australia (AUS) and Madagascar (MAD) in Pool B, setting up one of the weekend’s most intriguing groups. Australia, seeded seventh, have already won two stops this season and will be led by Alex Wilson, who returned to 3×3 basketball action in Singapore as the Gangurrus finished sixth.

Third seeds China (CHN) also arrive with plenty of firepower. Yang Hengyu has been among the leading rebounders on the circuit this season, collecting 123 total rebounds, and will be looking to build on China’s seventh-place finish at WS Singapore. China will begin their Bangkok campaign in Pool C alongside sixth seeds Mitsubishi Electric (JPN) and the winner of Qualifying Draw A.

Mitsubishi Electric have already shown how close they are to breaking through for a first FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series title. After finishing fifth in Singapore, the Japanese side will once again rely on Fuyuko Takahashi, who came close to lifting the winner’s banner at the WS Tokyo stop earlier in August.

Germany (GER), seeded fourth, headline Pool D alongside host nation Thailand (THA) and the winner of Qualifying Draw B. Germany are eighth in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series 2026 standings and remain in search of their first stop title of the season, making Bangkok another important opportunity to close the gap on the leading contenders.

Marie Reichert will be one to watch for the Germans after a disappointing 12th-place finish at WS Sea Breeze. The experienced forward and Paris 2024 gold medalist will be determined to help Germany bounce back and make a deep run.

Thailand, meanwhile, will have home support behind them as they look to turn familiarity into a breakthrough. Seeded fifth, the hosts are led by Supavadee Kunchuan, who is coming off a ninth-place finish in Singapore. Thailand will be chasing their first FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series title of the season, but face a difficult opening group alongside Germany and one of the qualifying teams.

The two remaining Main Draw spots will be decided through the Qualifying Draw, with Poland (POL), Brazil (BRA) and Croatia (CRO) competing for one ticket, while New Zealand (NZL), Singapore (SGP) and Chonburi (THA) battle for the other.

That makes the Qualifying Draw particularly significant, with Poland bringing the highest seed of the six teams. Brazil and Croatia will have to navigate a tough three-team group, while New Zealand, Singapore and home side Chonburi will also have their sights set on joining the Main Draw.
